Authentic Amritsari

Now..I guess I have never given 5 stars to any place that I have reviewed here. However here comes the first contended for 5 start category.

Gole Hatti, I have seen this place since the time I remember, and I am sure it is much older than that. Once you go there you will ge t the old world feel. It feels ancient, no sign of modernity. And this can also be taken as a hallmark of the quality of the food they serve. In so many years they have never felt the need to change anything, as the core of good, the food is authentic.

The one thing that is synonymous with Gole Hatti is their Naan. But its not your regular naan, they serve the Naan in a form that I have not eaten anywhere else in Delhi. You order a plate of Paneer Nan, you get one big king size Naan. Along with Chhole, Onions, Chutney etc.

They serve Plain Naan, Aloo Naan, Paneer Naan and Gobhi Naan is seasonanl. And when I last checked the most expense was not even Rs.30. They serve Chhole Puri in mornings, Bhature all day along, Chhole Chawal (Rice) & Samosas. But everything pales infront of the Naans, for those used to Desi Style Breakfast, a plate of Puris with a tall glass of Lassi is enough to carry you through for the day.

I am sometimes surprised by the consistency of these guys, for since the time I remember (atleast 15-20 years), they have been churning out the same quality and taste of Chhole.

The only problem is Parking Space. They are main road, difficult to locate, almost on a traffic intersection.

However a sumptuous Naan, followed by some heavenly Gulab Jamuns is worth all the trouble.
