It needs no introduction to delhites a know brand for authentic south indian food quality with a very reasonable budget even at times when fuel is Rs.65 a ltr. Whenever feel like not eating at home headout for SAGAR wont even pinch your pocket. -

Sagar Ratna is a place which does not need an introduction for the Delhites.This ever popular restaurant has several outlets across Delhi and NCR but none as popular as the one in Defence Colony market or "Def Col" as it is popularly called.
Serving authentic South Indian food, this place is a favorite with the "dilli waalas".Be it the idlis, dosas, uttapams or the upmas, this place has it all.

Still drawing large crowds 2009-01-09
This place does serve decent South Indian Udupi style grub, but i'm not sure what the all the fuss is about. It's average at best, with a maybe a few dishes being really good. I had a try of the Onion Uthappam, Rava Dosa and finally the dependable Ghee Roast. The Uthappam was good and so was the Rava Dosa but i was quite disappointed by the Ghee Roast. It was just too thin for my liking, and that just takes out all the fun for me. Hell, if i want a thin dosa i order a paper dosa! BEST FOR SOUTH INDIAN 2008-12-07
Though sagar have opened many outlets all over NCR but i feel the quality they serve here in their flagship restaurant in defence colony is superb.My family & Me dont get the satisfaction til we visit here and have our mysore masala dosa and south indian thali. -

It does not serve "sea food"! 2008-04-06
If you are from any place in "South or West" of India you will find this place shockingly expensive for the ambience, decor and it's South Indian snacks. I really can't recall any Udupi run eatery (in Bombay, Pune, Bangalore) charge a bomb for "Steam Idli".
Initial shocks apart, they certainly do make up for it with their tastefully done sambhar and freshly ground coconut chutney which is quiet rare in NCR. Whenever I'm visiting the NCR I do make it a point to visit Sagar (they have many branches) to get my fill of good South Indian snacks. -

If you've read my review on The Big Chill, I won't have to remind you of my love affair with food. Ask my parents, ask my husband - hell, ask my tailor who keeps having to alter my clothes
due to my ever changing size!
Anyway, since this is a review about Sagar, lets talk South Indian shall we?
My image of sagar began and ended with Shashi Kapoor rendering this beautifully romantic song to Dimple. I now prefer to relate the word to the restaurant.
What can I say that will do this humble yet oh so delectable eatery justice??

The MONSTER DOSA place! 2007-08-01
Their paper dosa is perhaps what they're most famous for!
It's an almost three feet long (no kidding!) dosa that could feed a family of three! You get your normal fare of udipi restaurant style food here coupled with north Indian food. The taste is fine, nothing new here.
Hygene is not their specialty for sure, as the waiters carry glasses with their fingers dipped in the water and the plates may occassionally contain the masala stains from the previous patrons meal.
