Second Visit - Cafe Saturday

I’m somehow in love with the idea of cafe breakfasts and lunches - even when I’m not there, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee with fresh baked stuff gets my taste buds going.

This morning therefore, we decided to leisurely step out of the house and spend the day in the marketplace, with large amounts of time spent in the vicinity of fresh coffee. As I’ve probably indicated, my latest obsession is this little cafe called i’lario in sector 18, noida, especially after I found it to be an entrepreneurial venture of a techie - brings it a bit closer to home. No wonder there’s free wireless internet - and it ain’t bad either.

So… the wife, cherie and I bustled into the place and tried out some coffee, hot chocolate and some sinful looking thing piled high with whipped cream. Along with this we tried a sandwich, chicken patty, potato patty and a croissant. Everything was good, except for the croissant, which was a trifle too bready for my taste.

I’m back here now, with yet another coffee. Did you know these chaps serve something called a Viennese blend? I profess my total ignorance of such matters - the owner was kind enough to leave a history sheet of the blend in an attempt to shed some light on the matter. I still don’t know all that much, but I do know it has a history. Someday, when I have the time, I’ll go a little deeper into this.

Anybody knowing anything about coffee - do leave a few nuggets!

3:30p: We’ve just finished a great lunch of spaghetti with tomatoes, herbs, olive oil and parmesan and breast of chicken stuffed with mushrooms, accompanied by fussili in white sauce, grilled vegetables and a nice large baked potato. Its been a great day and I’m looking forward to coming back for my morning wakeup call on Monday. Where this place scores over Barista is their service, attitude and presence of good, cooked stuff. The breads could be a bit more creative though, but then there’s always room for improvement. :-)

Best Cafe + Food in NOIDA

My quest for coffee took me to i’lario another cafe, open in the morning. They call themselves an Italian bakery too. Not really - Everything is quite good - but nothing I could call Italian.

I ain’t a coffee connoisseur, so I found the coffee to be just as good as Barista and about 35% cheaper - which matters if you’re going to do it everyday, like I am. The chap at the counter was nice to talk to an a very refreshing change from the people you otherwise find behind the counter - better than the chap at Barista anyway. When asked a direct question, he was honest enough to admit that the stuff on the shelf was of the previous evening. It all looked fine though and perhaps worth a try, since they’re stored chilled. I’m going to try the potato patties tomorrow. Did I mention it’s right next to Barista, Sector 18, NOIDA.

If you see a tall, fat, moustachioed character between 9:00am and 9:30am there - thats me. :-)

Update: 18 Jan 08: Second visit, only coffee, previous order was remembered and served. Also, I sent feedback to the website and actually received a reply [see comments] - which is not something that happens every day - I recall writing to the Barista people about a quality issue and received no replies to more than one mail. I’m beginning to like this place! Next stop - the bakery section.
