Keventers got milk for you!

This is one really really really old establishment in the heart of Delhi. Read this article by Ruskin Bond on his Delhi Summers of 1942 where he mentions his trips to Keventers at http://www.hinduonnet.com/thehindu/yw/2002/09/14/stories/2002091400030100.htm.Now that is really as old as Keventers is.

Keventers Milk Bar is a really run down small shop situated next to another old world charm of CP called the Wengers Bakery. You could very well miss this place, but all you got to do is look around for a huge bunch of people toting their milk bottles near Wengers. These milk bottles are the same which one would use to deliver Delhi Milk Scheme milk when polypacked milk was not the in-thing yet!

The picture you'd see is from the old times, when Keventers had a small seating room with comfy sofa inside and you sit inside and order. These days, the partition is gone, its become exposed and though you can still choose to sit inside on the wooden benches and have your shakes, its not as comfortable as the sofa's earlier.

Ok, now to the meat of this review. The Milkshakes. You have them in Vanilla, Pineapple, Strawberry, Mango, Chocolate, Butter Scotch, Coffee and may a few others that I can't remember. You can also have them without Sugar. Made out of pure Cow Milk, you can stand at the billing counter and actually take a peep behind the curtain in the kitchen to see people washing bottles, blending milk with the flavors, and you could also see those big milk cans/barrels being tossed out of the place to be parked outside somewhere. Although they are all good, I usually end up going for Chocolate. They all cost 23 bucks for a 400 ml serving.

It seems though on a crowded holiday, they can't seem to live up to the crowd's expectations. On my last trip I had to wait just like 30 other people ahead and behind of me to get my 2 bottles of milk shake, and that too, did not exactly taste chocolate milk shake!!!!!! But other times they have been good so I would deduct just one star out of their rating and give them another chance the next time I am in Delhi.

The quick eats are all good too. I hit the Chilli Paneer Kulcha (20 rs/-) usually, and the Cheese Bread Pakora (10/-) is pretty good too. Other things worth a try are their ice creams, ice cream shakes and the Kathi Rolls which I never get down to sampling as I end up with my favourite food here all the time!
