great chinese food

Well having a full fledged website indicating the full standardised menu with prices was enough to entice my wife who was cribbing about finding authentic chinese in and around rajouri garden.
We did try couple of places in Rajouri including self style Yo! (which calls itself Indianised Chinese) and my wife absolutely hated the plasticised Chinese there. For my defense, I still love their chilly chicken (made in punjabi ishtyle).
When a journalist friend of mine told me about Berco's, I thought it is another place that serves drinks and serves some chinese dummies (call them dimsums if you want). But it was a surprise from start to end.
Located in the center of the District Center in Janakpuri it is an easy find. And the waiting time on a Friday evening was not much - not that it was not full; It was quite happening. But the crowd seemed unipolar with huge punjabi groups and few couples relegated to the side tables.
There are couple of TV's high mounted playing the IPL matches. After a brief wait, the guard who acts as your guide, we were guided to a corner table with neat decor and functional aides (napkins and forks). Cool water first came with a cleanly dressed attendent. Then we were served the menu (both food and drink) with a nice smile.
Warming up to the meal, we ordered couple of fruit beers (we still belong to the world of no meat and no alcohol) and ordered the famous momo's from berco's. And i ordered a egg splashed sweetcorn while my wife ordered a hot&sour.
There was a big table served of which only half the seats were occupied by a punjabi family and seem to be anticipating another family. And yes, before the soup came the other half of the party came. And the way the restaurant handled such a boisterous crowd without annoying any other guests was fantastic. And we got to know the reason for such a large gathering. They want to get into a wedding. The guy was smiling and we had some trouble finding the simple girl in the other party. Well yes, you guessed it. We had enough time to kill before the order came. It was quite a wait.
But it was all worth it. The schezwan stirred momos were really apetizing and the soup was all worth coming to the restaurant for my wife. She was more loving to me for the rest of the evening.
We then cleaned the tables and called for the menu. The orders served were in good quantity and we were 75% full at that time. May be summer decreases your apetite a lot - yours truly was also not so inclined. But the menu was not letting us go. We ordered some veg fried rice and a vegetable dish cooked in a zesty lemon sauce and it didnt disappoint. Thought our tummies and tongues were satisfied, we were attracted to the noodles being served to another table but restrained ourselves for a second visit.
The death by chocolate is supposed to be really great but we didnt have the stomach that day.
Eager to return to the Bercos, we came out 500 bucks lighter.
If a group goes (which seems to be order of that day) it might cost around 200 per person and there are special packages for executive lunches for which its ambience is great.
I totally recommend this place for an authentic chinese meal (without the chinese names) in around Janakpuri and Rajouri.
