plain functional

There was a time, when I was in school, Nirula's was considered to be hot and happening. There were not many fast food chains, McD's was not as spread as it is today or it was not there. Only Nirula's and Wimpy were the places where you got the good burger and pizza.

I have visited Nirula's only couple of times in last several years and both the times it was their Hot Chocolate Fudge, however today I decided to give it a shot for my craving of a good sandwich.

The first thing I noticed was the change the mode of operation from a self service place, it has become a 'serviced' place. It was almost full, however the crowd was not I am used to see, at the risk of sounding politically incorrect in its heydays it used to attract a lot more chic and happening crowd, but now the crowd looked more like a bunch of wannabes, trying to look upmarket.

The food was average to say the best, as those prices I expected a bit better. They had only two options in the Sandwich, a veg and a chicken. Veg was Rs.54 + taxes and Chicken was Rs.59+taxes. I had a veg sandwich and bread was well grilled, good in taste and wholesome, however it was the stuffing that let it down. The stuff was good in quantity but was not well spread and had a peculiar taste. All in all, I found it just bearable.

The I had a regular onion and capsicum pizza, I was around Rs. 89 + taxes for a thin crust. It was again plain average, I might say that the only taste hat i sensed was of capsicum and the mustard I was using on the pizza. I guess its to do with the cheese, which seemed so to taste like .... nothing.

It might be the same taste that I loved in our school days 10 years back, however I guess now we have been spoilt for choices and have tasted a lot more things to differentiate between good, bad and average. I can say that Nirula is just average.
