Pizza all the way.

Bombay has been steadily upgrading its pizza scene over the past several years. As a sucker for good pizza, I believe pizza can never be bad. It's either great or good. As one of the kickstarters of Bombay's pizza revolution, Mangii has been my staple for the area for as long as I can remember. Although the quality is a tad better at Mia next door, Mangii certainly takes on in terms of prices and quantity.

It's aptly located across the lake right by JVLR, while the traffic rarely affects the ambiance of both, the al fresco and A/C sections. You are always greeted and served well and prompt. Between this and the only surviving other outlet at Khar, this one beats the Khar one by a mile and a half in terms of everything - ambiance, service and quality of food. Pizzas are crisp, full of flavor, ample sauce and toppings of whichever you choose from. So the difference lies with the other items. Their breakfast fare is decent enough. Benedict made well, pancakes slightly dense but passable.

Appetizers that are worth your while: Cajun chicken, Baked Jalapenos, Poppers and Crostinis. Pastas: Siciliano, Orecchiette Pesto (one of the best I have had), Spinach Ravioli (dad loved it as well). The Fricassee crepe and Pollo Lombardy are the two best mains I have had here. All this with wine pairings make for an excellent meal.

Certainly enough, there are pizzerias popping all around the city. But I can safely place Mangii among the pioneers in the city and they will remain that way.

Great ambiance and good for large groups to dine

Went there for a team meeting once, they have a wide variety of pizza's. All of them are good. Tasted quite a few being part of the team. Their Bruschetta is also equally good. The prices are a little on the higher side but the food was worth it when we went. So wouldn't complain about that as long as I had a good time.

Italian food lovers try this

This place serves good Italian food along with great ambiance and service on display at all times. Pizzas and Pastas are excellent, even made better with the fact that the sauces and crusts can be personalized as per one's taste!

Mushroom soup is also worth trying. One of my friends loved the Jalapeno Popper balls and another one loved Falafel, so you can try those too!

Relish dinner experience

It is one of the most famous Italian joints in Mumbai. Extremely pleasant indoor and outdoor seating. They are located very very close from JVLR towards Hirandan. I feel like home at this restaurant.
They serve real good pizzas, I really like their appetisers. My favourite is Verdure and amongst non-veg pizzas, Frutti Di Mare (Prawns and Crab meat.) They have a good concept of small plates so even if you are feeling full, you can definitely try these out. The Risotto and the pasta are awesome. Other dishes like the penne arabiata and ravioli are also mouth watering dishes.
Although it's a little heavy on the pocket. It's worth every cent. This place gets crowded in the evening. I would recommend people to visit this place even with the service tax thing. I have covered all places in Powai and this one is right at the top of the list.

Thin crust pizzas galore

You love pizzas the authentic way and this is a place you can’t miss. Love their wood oven pizzas. Have kept up their quality even with competition next door from Mia Cucina (a very worthy competitor). Even salads are made very thoughtfully. Their interiors have started to show their age a little though and begun to show the wear and tear. Should replace it as it’s an eye sore.

Decent.. But overpriced

I am a huge fan of Italian food, which took us to Cafe Mangii last evening for dinner. The ambience was lovely, dim not the ideal ambience for my in laws... But nevertheless they loved it.. With the big screen playing the match, it kept my Father-in-law entertained. The staff is very courteous and chivalrous, more importantly.. They we re patient since they saw my husband was running late and were very helpful with the menu too.

The food however, does not score a perfect 10. We started with the Calzone Carneltini, which was divine. CM has lived up to the reputation of having one of the best pizzas in town. We followed this up with the mushroom risotto which was tasty, but the consistency of the risotto was very thick. The Spaghetti in vodka cream sauce was simply brilliant and scored even above the pizza.

The most disastrous dish followed the stuffed chicken with ricotta, the chicken was dry and overdone and stuffing completely cold. The overall dish lacked any flavour except for the garlic mashed potatoes.

Thank God we followed it with desserts - philadephia cheesecake - again one o the best we've tried in the city and the simply indulgent tiramisu.. CM may have disappointed on the stuffed chicken but their desserts won my heart back :)

Not very impressive- Service & Environment

It was a planned Saturday night diner for me & my wife, we expected a good time will be spent in Mangi over diner. Sadly, our expectations were turned down.

Service needs to be improved a lot... there is a shear lack of coordination between your servers & bar tender. Bar tender acts really cool in front of guests, but is unaware about the products on menu.

The ambiance was very dull, music was too low & we were irritated by the noise of other guests... a similar experience that you get in any cheap thali restaurant.

Salads are overpriced... Pizzas are the only thing worth complimenting.

Worth every penny!

Was looking something near to Powai to celebrate my Birthday after a working day. We mutually decided to head here after hearing so much about it. Being a Tuesday, it was well occupied by the time we got there by 8:30. It has both indoor and outdoor seating. We wanted some fresh air, and decided to sit outside.

The ambiance and seating are very cozy and lovable. We could friends hanging out and at the same time families coming for dinner. The staff is courteous and eager to serve. The atmosphere is something which will make you come back here. Also the food!!

We started by ordering a Mezze Platter for 2 with drinks. Mezze platter consist of 6 grilled pita breads and falafel with hummus, harrisa, labneh, taboulleh, olives and bell peppers. This was something I relished. Absolutely lip smacking. Do try this . For drinks we ordered a mocktail - Energy Sunrise which was a mix of red bull, orange juice, strawberry and pineapple. (pic attached ) . Refreshing.

Next we ordered the Classic Cheese fondue, which came with croutons and sorted veggies (babycorn, bell peppers, zucchini , etc) This was delightful and at the same time fills up your tummy. Enough for 2 people, this will surely make you happy. (Pic attached)

For a Mezze platter, Fondue and 2 drinks we churned up Rs. 1500. Worth every penny.

Decent Italian restaurant

We visited the place on a Tuesday, and the place was packed! We had a friendly server, who was recommending dishes to us, according to our preferences. There were some dishes that needed some tweaking, and the server happily obliged. We ordered pizza, pasta, risotto and ravioli and everything was perfect. Even though we had some discount on the meal, we weren't offered a poor service. I would definitely recommend the place and I can't wait to visit again!

Bad Service Experience

Having been to the Khar outlet twice before I decided to give the Powai restaurant a shot for my Independence Day dinner with my wife. My earlier pleasant experiences with Cafe Mangii in Khar was the only reason I chose it in spite of having a plethora of excellent dining options in the area. Well, not going there anymore!!

It started off well - We were there at around 8, early-ish for dinner service and there were quite a few vacant tables. We were directed to our table and got a friendly and smiling waiter for our service. We started with the minestrone soup which was a bit more tomatoey for a minestrone than I expect, but yummy nevertheless. We decided to try the Jalapeno and cheese poppers. It was OK but was more like a bar finger food and looked a bit out of place for a Italian fine dine. I should have stuck to the fondues or the gnocchis for the appetizers. Having tried their pastas before - we decided to go for a pizza this time. The Smoked Scarmoza which left us a tad disappointed. It could have been done well if the toppings were more generous. What stood out ironically was the delicious peach and apricot iced tea (Yes Iced-tea! I-Day = Dry day remember?)

Things start to go sour after that. After we are done with out food and waiting to order the desert, Mr . Manager comes in and asks if we can shift tables so that they can join our table to accommodate a larger group waiting outside. Now, anyone in the hospitality industry will tell you one of the basic courtesies is to never ask a guest to move tables before he is done. My local Udupi restaurant doesn't do that and let alone a fine-dine restaurant!!! No matter how politely it is requested, it is still insulting. And it was not even like we were lingering at our table more then we ought to. Mr. Managers argument was that he is requesting it only because there are kids in the group. lol. So What? Kids not handicapped or old people for whom I would have gladly given up my seat. You can't really expect anyone to buy that excuse, clearly it was because a larger group means more business to you.

Anyway, we decided to not wait for desert and pay up and leave. An attempt was made to placate us by offering a free desert or discount on the bill. ugghh! For an area like Hiranandani which has such great dining options with little to chose between them - sometimes its the service and the experience which tips the balance in favour or against a particular restaurant. I, for one, will take my valuable rupee and spend it elsewhere next time.

Café Mangii – House of Innovative & Creative Ital

One restaurant I often frequent is “Café Mangii” in Mumbai. Situated in the Khar and Powai suburbs of Mumbai, Café Mangii is my favourite restaurant when it comes to satisfying my palate for Italian cuisine.

Before I go to the actual restaurants and cuisine, here are a few interesting facts about Café Mangii. Café Mangii is a more concise model of the fine dining restaurant Mangii Fera. Quiz the managing Director Prashant Chaudhury of the Mangii Fera Café’s Pvt Ltd, the group that promotes Café Mangii about the name and he will tell you, it all started with a mango, or rather a mango tree and the names just popped out of that one mango tree in the front patio. Today Café Mangii is a part of the Mirah Hospitality Group, with 4 outlets in Mumbai, 2 in Pune and 1 in Goa.

Coming back to the actual restaurant, I have been to 4 Café Mangii outlets… 3 in Mumbai and 1 in Goa and the first thing you notice about the restaurant is their signature white washed walls that adorn the exteriors of the restaurant, giving it a serene look, even in the chaos of the crowded Khar lane or the chaos of Powai. What’s more, each outlet has a distinct, elegant look, with extremely tasteful interiors lit in welcoming and romantic yellow lights. Another endearing thing you notice about Café Mangii is the fact that they have wood fired oven, which is always ready to serve hot pizza’s. It almost takes you back to the smaller Pizza joints in the by-lanes of Rome where you are often welcomed in to the smell of burning wood and a pleasant “Mio Caro… benvenuto alla pizzeria!”

However, Café Mangii’s pizza’s are not their only specialty. In fact, during my last visit to Café Mangii Powai, I completely skipped the pizza’s and tried their other exotic delicacies. Here’s what we picked:
[1] Cream of Exotic Mushrooms - Thumbs up
[2] Lobster Bisque - Thumbs down, the flavour too strong!
[3] Red Wine Poached Pears crumbled feta arugula and walnuts in balsamic dressing - MUST TRY
[4] Woodfire Oven Baked Lasagna with Veg ragout - Vegetarian's delight
[5] Risotto Carneltini: Meat Lover's delight!
[6] Chargrilled Rawas Steak: Dish concept good, fish was stale... so smelly
[7] Brazilian Tenderloin Steak: Loved it!
[8] Chilean Seabass: Good
[9] Cocolate Fondue: To die for

Great Food but Not so Great Experience

I finished a lunch at Cafe Mangi (considered premium) with some office collegues and some of the unacceptable things I saw... A fly in the butter, Chipped Fondue bowl and indifferent waiter who told us “Bread Basket is complementary and I can only have one"....

I am just worried that there were few places in Powai which you could say "Stands Out" in terms of quality of food and service, the number is falling down.

Undoubtedly, One of the best places to dine in central subs, Fondue served is one of the best I have ever tried, and the best part is the consistency with which the food is served...

The Best !!!

A fab place for italian food.
Jalepeno poppers to begin your dinner are lipstickingly tasty.
The ambience is good. you might find mosquitos inside so need to select table right.
The menu might seem a bit confusing but with the wonderful staff at your service you need not worry.
Pizzas are one of the best i have tasted so far.
The outside seating arrangement is good if u are in a group n want to chit chat.

Undoubtedly the best restaurant in the central sub

Went there for the nth time with an old friend for lunch today. This place has not let me down ONCE. We had the cream of mushroom soup, some cheddar cheese and jalapeno starter and the vegetale pizza. All were simply lovely. The woodfried pizzas have always made me feel a little high. The desserts, pasta, breakfast menu all are beautiful.

The alcohol is quite overpriced, but really, that's a premium I'd gladly pay for the lakeside setting and the really courteous staff.

And I must mention the one thing that really makes this place so much much much better than any other restaurant in Powai & nearby - THE MUSIC. Their choice of music is always bang on. Thumbs up for that.

Ambience: they have 2 ambience... wid a/c & outside seating.... d outside is whre de allw smkng... we went inside... nice lit up & i liked their overall set up.

Food: we had ordered a starter... cheese balls... despite dem being good.... my advice at dis plce wud b nt to waste ur money on starters but head strght for main course... we order couple of pastas... a spaghetti & a penne... both were really good & dese guys r generous enuf in quantity. We ordered somewhre arnd 5-7 pizza's... believe me... i ve nvr had a pizza like these before!! all different & absolutely outstanding thin pizza's.... i wud ve never imagined pizza hvng brinjal... tgh nt a fan of it... it tasted really good!! all were of different taste & each one jus kept surprising us & tasted superb!!

Service: this is perhaps the best part i loved abt dis cafe.... their service ws jus amzng!! right frm d entry to d exit!! staff here r well trained n i guess its their service more than d food which will compel ppl to come back!! they serve wid a smile... wow, while hvng food wt more wud u desire than a happy service! i liked it... while exit, d kind lady gave us mints which i ve nt seen at oder plces! usually de jus leave it in a bowl, but here de were serving us!! hats off to their service!

They have an excellent outdoor seating area in addition to a nice indoor place. Especially when the weather is good outdoor is very pleasant with dreamy lights but a bit noisy with the sound of traffic.
They have a good drinks menu with different options. We tried Risotto, butter pepper prawns which were delicious. However, the chicken appetizer was a disappointment. Though the preparation was good, the chicken was pretty dry.

Worth a try....

Cafe Mangii is situated in one of the little bylanes of Powai. The place has a very warm, cozy feel to it.
Food: We called for the Jalapeno and cheddar poppers, which literally melt in the mouth. Since the place is famous for its napolitana thin crust wood-fired pizzas, we ordered for the Alla Fiamma pizza, which was spicy, cheesy and well made.
Drinks: The Mama Latte was creamy, but the Peach n mint cocktail was a very off putting sight.
Cost: 1200/-
Beautiful bar counter, pleasant staff, good food. Rating: 3/5

A Fun Lunch

Lunch for seven means you get to experiment with a whole lot on the menu. We'd decided to share everything so as to get a taste of a lot. My favourite part of the whole meal was the watermelon fetta and arugula salad, simple and tasty. Minestrone soup was good and was served at the right temperature so didnt have to wait to eat it because it looked pretty good too. The Gnocchi in pesto was really nice and soft and tasted freshly made. Enjoyed the complimentary assorted bread basket. The three cheese fondue was alright, not the greatest. Ravioli was delicious and not overly saucey. The one thing we'd ordered, but got discouraged to eat as we were so full was a huge cottage cheese steak, looked good. For dessert we'd ordered the Creme Brulee, Tiramisu and Blueberry Cheese Cake, all delicious, just wish the burnt cream and the custard inside were a bit thicker in the Creme Brulee.

My thanks and regrets.

I'm not sure whether I should love this place or hate them. Since I had their wood oven pizzas, I just can't eat dominos or pizza hut pizzas anymore. Though I've tried only two of their pizzas, I've completely fallen in love with their vegetarian pizza namely "Al fungi". And for a hardcore meat eater like me, it's even more shocking. The Al fungi is just heavenly and it's so rich in flavour and taste each time I have it. So full marks for consistency. The calzones and pastas are quite good too but I stick to the pizzas. As I said, my thanks and regrets to them!!
Oh the ambience with the lighting and decor is quite romantic even in the outside area. Much like how an Italian joint should be. So the beer belied frat boys may like to skip this.

And we definitely dont regret our decision..
Had one of the yummiest pasta ever.

And they also served our complimentary Assorted Garlic breads and kept refilling it..
It was really yummy..
Only one problem thought, their service is little slow.
They need to improve it on that area.

A Lovely Dinner at Mangii

We went to Cafe Mangi - Powai for our anniversary dinner a month back. Mangi has 2 seating options – Open-Air café as well as an Indoor Dining one. The Open-Air café has a lovely setting with orange lights, a few bushes & Cane (Cane like if I remember correctly) seating but Mangi is located too close to the highway so it’s quite dusty. Hence we opted to dine Indoor. Indoor, the seating is quite spaced out & I found the lighting to be a bit too dim but it did not hamper our dining experience in anyway.

We started with their basket of house breads with the quintessential olive oil + balsamic vinegar + flakes dip, it’s just a perfect combination to start with! But the house breads have to be warm & freshly made, insist on it. We didn't know how to make the dip but knew that breads are usually eaten with one like this so just asked one of the guys to make it for us & they promptly did so!

Our main meal - Broccoli meat ball soup, some baked fish, squid rings & a salmon ravioli. All of it well made – true to Italian flavours & texture of cooking. We asked for recommendations on almost all the dishes – we did not want to go with a usual – arabiata pasta or a risotto , the guys & the chef were quite informative & helped us in picking exactly what we felt like having.

Broccoli Soup: Bland taste like most Italian food but with a rich creamy texture & pieces of finely chopped Broccoli to add that realness to it. The meat balls didn't matter.

Baked fish & Squid: Cooked with herbs & minimal spices – it was mild, juicy & bland yet tasty for a discerning palate. The fish was fresh & succulent. The squid was not at all chewy – had a tangy, garlicky taste with a good dash of olive all on it.

Ravioli: Absolutely delectable. The taste of the salmon carefully preserved inside the ravioli triads & the rich, creamy mushroomy cheesy sauce to made the experience smooth & savoury.

We stopped there...satisfied both in mind & heart.

Enjoyed the food, the ambience with nice Italian music in the background, the always forthcoming waiters & head chef with their recommendations – it was all quite good.

Worst dining expereince ever

I went there couple of weeks back and I am kicking myself for not posting it earlier.
It all started badly when I handed over the keys to my car to the valet, without any regard to the stationary auto behind and the beeping reverse parking sensor the guy rammed my new car into the auto and when i confronted him (as this happened in front of my eyes, leading to a huge dent and scrath on the rear bumper), he tried to put the blame on the autowala. I had to intervene to save my car from the angry auto wala. There was no one from the management on the scene for almost 10 minutes. Finally the guy dressed in black (dont remember his name) came and saw the damage and promised to take some remedial measure. However the entire time i was there (1hr or so) i asked to speak to the manager 3-4 times, but somehow the guy in black and the manager were both so busy that they were not even willing to come and meet me to offer apologies for the entire episode. This talks about the service these guys are offering, on the food front the food is average, service is average tilting towards poor. all in all if someone asks me about the place, i would say it sucks. Ask urself would you spend 1500-1800 bucks for a meal for 2 for such bad service. Choice is urs.

Dinning Experience

The prompt service, muted ambiance added to the distinct flavours of the herbs used liberally in the soup, fondue, pizzas & pastas. Loved the 'near chapatti like thinness' of the spicy, chesseless Fressca.
Worth the trouble Experience, much better than the over-rated Names in Hiranandani. GOOD FOOD... Ding-Dong

Café Mangii-Breakfast…Quite a bumpy meal..

A close to chilly morning was inviting enough for 4 course breakfast at the popular Italian joint –Café Mangii bang opposite the Powai Lake.
Having visited this place earlier for dinner, I quite knew what I was getting into….or so I thought cause there were some surprises.
Freshly squeezed juice (read packaged juice) was the first disappointment…cause packaged juice isn’t freshly squeezed juice is it??
Choice breakfast cereal/corn flakes and wheat flakes with cold milk. Nothing extra ordinary in that except I would have preferred the cereal with real fruits which was not available.
However we were let down by this simple dish when one of my friends found hair in her milk…..eew!
But we were still hopeful that rest of the course would not have such unpleasant surprises!
Next on the menu was lightly toasted bread with a assortment of fried egg delicacies like sunny side up, ham and mushroom stuffed and of course the overly easy omelette with a pair of hash browns on the side. I chose the omelette with the ham and the mushroom and found it quite a mouth ful.
The highlight and rather the best in the entire course was undoubtedly that warm waffles with the seeping golden honey syrup. The waffles were baked with just right the proportion of crispiness and the sponginess without giving a damp taste. The combination just melts in your mouth leaving you feeling quite content overriding the earlier disappointments.
We had to literally take short break here cause truly we were full till the throat and we had to make space for the dessert and the coffee which by the way was unlimited. Doesn’t make sense putting an unlimited drink at the end when your so full that your sure you wont have more then a cup of the caffeine.
For desert we were offered a assortment of croissants, muffins and Danish pastries with cappuchinos/coffee or an expresso.
Staff very courteous and alert. Ambience was truly pleasing with the light jazz music complimenting the mood in the morning.
All in all...some disappointments..some sweet surprises...quite a bumpy meal..

Sad experience ... again !

After the mouth watering food sampling experience at Cafe Mangii Versova, I could not but give this place another shot. Last January I had a terrible experience just after they opened the outlet and after a year, I would have expected that they have got the act right - especially being part of the best Italian Restaurant (Khar outlet) in Mumbai, where after years of regular visit I have not been dissapointed yet.

We wanted to have our favorite, two of the best dishes we had at Versova - Fusilli Mamma Rossa and Lasagna. Both were such a dissapointment and nowhere close in taste or texture to the one we had there or in Khar before. The Fusilli was just bad and the Lasgna was made of stiff chicken mince and hard carrots with no flavor at all !!!

What happend to the melt in mouth variety, full flavor and 'perfect' sample we had - Devika ! Something is still very very wrong here and it's just not the same experience sadly. The expertise is not being transferred and food here continues to be a sad reflection. Not going back ever again ... even if the decor / location is so beautiful and walking distance from our house.

Rekindling my love for Italy

I have been off Italian food for a while preferring the robust flavour of Thai food. But my god, Cafe Mangi picked me up and plopped me right back in my Italian loving zone...The pizza was like having little slices of heaven. I ordered the Greque salad (Yeah, its not italian) and it was yummmm..nice creamy feta and delicious chunks of veggies. We sunk our teeth into some delicious baked cheesecake and a chocolate hazelnut cake and the flavour makes you go a little cuckoo. You will want to get up and launch into an impromptu performance. The staff was great as well.
PS: They have this garlic, olive oil and something else preparation that they serve with the bread. You will have to ask for it coz I guess its a secret? You are going to experience some serious burps of satisfaction.

One thing missing

Visited for the first time after hearing some colleagues rave about it. Had excellent pasta, though a little heavy on the sauce. My son, a pizza connoisseur, went gaga over the pizza, not to mention the creme brulee. The only disappointment was the substandard cappuccino (for one thing, did not have steamed milk, was more like a bad cafe latte). Any Italian restaurant worth its name should have good Italian coffee.

Never Again

I went in for breakfast on a Saturday morning. An order of eggs took more than half an hour. The restaurant had only 2 other tables with customers. Pathetic service. Waiters seem completely indifferent and unapologetic for the delay. Finally walked out. Second consecutive bad experience at Mangii. The last time they had served us a stale tiramisu. Used to be a decent restaurant. But its gone all the way down to the bottom.

I was a regular here and there was a time when I would have given this restaurant 5 stars. But I have been noticing a downward trend in terms of ingredient quality and preparation during my visits in the last 3 months. Dishes are made unnecessarily cheesier and creamier hiding the authentic flavors. The wood fired pizzas are pretty good though and the service standards have still been maintained. The music gets too loud to be able to have a decent conversation. But that has always been the case. I hope the management at Mangii takes notice of their shortcomings and bring back their high standards in ingredient quality and preparation.

Italy in Powai

We had Cafe Mangii on our list for quite some time. Unfortunately, whenever we tried visiting the Khar outlet, we met with rejection due to long waiting or private parties. Then one day we decided to visit the Powai one. Little did we know that it would have us hooked! I usually like to try out new places every time we go out, and I rarely visit a restaurant more than twice. Cafe Mangii has been an exception.

It's a wonderful feeling to be seated outside in open air (provided you can ignore the din of the traffic) and be served with care and affection. Yes, their service levels have gone down a little bit (it has become slower than usual) but that still doesn't deter us.

Food is excellent and makes you forget the wait. The wood fired pizzas live up to the hype and beat it too. I love the stuffed chicken breast and it has been my usual order on each visit. Their drinks (my better half loves the Guava mocktail) are top notch and so are the desserts (special mention to the chocolate coated strawberries).

I would think that sitting outside on the wooden deck, on a cool winter evening, Cafe Mangii does have the power to transport you to the real Italy!

Yes, realized it when visited there, to start with Bread Basket with Butter and Dip, and then we ordered different non- veg platters and not to forget the Chicken soup, I cant recall the exact name of it, but my..my... it was so yuuummm.... I just loved it...!!

Love to go there once again !! Defintely i would rate it 5Star !! ***** :))

Nice Location and Awesome Food

I keep going here, great location (central when I want to meet people from Central and Western Suburbs). I have been to the Bandra location as well, but I prefer the Powai one for a few reasons in spite of it being farther away from home- Great views, Better quality of food and service.

Over multiple visits, for Lunch and Dinner, I have sampled various vegetarian dishes.

Bread Basket with Butter and Dip:
They serve fresh complimentary bread to start off with along with soft butter and on request get a plate of extra virgin olive oil with balsamic vinegar dip. Their bread is always fresh and warm, and is a great start to the meal. Most times, they refill the bread at least 2 times and more on request.

Jalapeno and Cheddar Poppers: Fried to perfection, these bite sized appetizers are a great way to begin the meal and a great accompaniment along with my favorite beer or soda :)
Potato Gnocci: I am a gnocci lover, and I tried this once, it was well made and the spinach sauce added a nice taste to the gnocci.

Alla Fiama: I love the pizza fiama at Trattoria, so I gave the Fiamma a chance on my first visit here. It was very well done and tasty. Tratts still wins with this pizza.
Capricciosa: This pesto based pizza with bell peppers, sun dried tomatoes and jalapeno is my favorite pizza here.
I am waiting to try a Pizza Fresca on my next visit :)

Spaghetti Aglio Olio Pepperoncino:
Perfectly cooked al dente spaghetti tossed in a nice garlic and spice based sauce, tossed with vegetables
Fusili Mama Rosa: Tried the pink sauce here last time. It was well made and perfectly flavored.
Ravioli Armellino: The spinach ricotta stuffed ravioli pasta wasn't stuffed well, and seemed prepared in advance, I'd like a fresher variant. The creamy porcini mushroom sauce was a bit too creamy for my taste (i should have substituted with a red sauce).

It is priced quite well, and is normally around 700 per person without drinks, and around 1000 with a beer.

Will try the breakfast menu soon :)

Good ambience, good food, average service

When it comes to food, I have had some good experiences with Mangii. The place has large tables and comfortable sofas, so you are not clamoring for space as your order food for a large group. The pastas, lasagna are good. So are the pizzas. The crostinis, stuffed mushroom, and calamari were pretty neat, though the bruschetta is avoidable. Soups work nicely on your pallete too. The other thing I did not like were the risottos.

The ambience is nice, though one wonders how to maximize the joy of the powai lake view, given the traffic (and pollution) on JVLR.

I have heard good things about their breakfast buffet, but haven't tried personally.

The service here varies too much - either at the extremes of courteousness (and hence, annoying) or indifferent/impersonal (and hence, too slow and irritable).

But I'd still recommend the place for someone looking for good italian food in the powai, andheri east, chandivli, ghatkopar, etc. areas.

All good

Had met a friend for lunch here on a Sunday afternoon sometime back. We were seated nicely near the window and the location is just perfect very close to Powai lake and the ambience is really nice.

We ordered iced tea, fresh lime and Bruschetta, which were all good.

I ordered a pizza and my friend ordered a pasta. Don't remember which one we ordered but we both loved what we ordered. It's tough to find wood fired pizzas in Mumbai and this place does a good job in serving it.

Would love to visit again!!!

Nice food Bad Service

It was an amazing experience eating at this Joint wanted to try this for a very long time.
It is worth each rupee you spend .
I tried Veg menu as i think you can judge a really good restaurant by their veg menu (Also my frind was Veg ;-) )
I tried Vegitale Pizza and Mama Rosa Pasta
The Pizza was really good ,as i like only pizza hut pizza this was one pizzza which i had no regrets and it really had that Italian feel to it.
The Pasta was a red sauce not too thick

The service though was a little bad no one pays attention to the customers sitting outside
But thumbs up from me

Waiters should be more trained

We reached the restaurant around 1.30 for lunch and there were just couple of tables occupied. Once we were on our main course the restaurant was almost full and that's when the tables seemed to be placed very close together. It was not a comfortable experience.

1) Even when there were just couple of tables occupied, the waiters seemed frazzled and running around doing nothing. Once the restaurant was full, we saw that there were lot of order issues at tables around us (we had reached and ordered before the restaurant was full). After some time there was big party which came in and it seemed that all the waiters were busy attending to them and there was just a solitary waiter handling 10 or so tables with individual diners.

2) I had ordered iced tea which had stale mint the first time it came. I complained about it and they replaced it with a fresh one without any hassles. That was a good thing.

3) Special mention to a gentle man in black. I forgot to ask his name and don't know his designation but he seemed to all over the restaurant at once anticipating the diner’s needs. We were missing a fork and he replaced it before we could miss it. Once my chicken main course arrived he was there with a steak knife for me without my asking for it :-) Best part was at the end, we were leaving and he was at another table, but he still managed to be at the door with mints for us :-) FANTASTIC ATTITUDE AND SERVICE by this gentle man. Still regret not getting his name.

1) Lemon Ice Tea - Was not good the first time it came but on complaining they got me a fresh one which was ok. Too sweet for my taste though.
2) Guava Mary - My husband tried this and it was great. Reminded him of eating peru with masala on top
3) Herb Chicken and Broccoli Soup - Very good.
4) Potato Gnocchi - Good, but probably won't repeat it. Reminded me too much of alu palak :-)
5) Margherita Pizza - Fabulous. my husband’s true test for any pizza place is if they can get the basic pizza right then they won't go wrong with the ones with toppings. This pizza had perfect proportion of cheese and sauce to the thin crust !!!!
6) Char Grilled Chicken - Chicken was a little chewy but tasted good with the gravy. I discovered I am not a polenta person :-)

Overall - A good and repeatable experience.

Tres Bien

Went to this cozyplace with my buddies and had a blast... The dish one after the other were good.So our course consisted of the following:
Cheese Fondue with Bell Peppers
Potato Gnocchi
Pizza Capricciosa
Herbed Chicken
Food bill amounted to 2500 approx for the 4 of us.The drink menu however was a little disappointing given a wide array of mains. Additionally, the cocktails quantity was too small. Wish that could be better.
The seating area outside was really pleasant with cool breeze from the lake. A happy experience. Please work on the drinks menu and quantity.

I used to go to college nearby, so I have seen this place multiple times while traveling back home! Wanted to try Lasagna because I have been pretty disappointed with other restaurants! Nice economical Lake-facing hotel..!! My partner is a non-vegetarian so he had his own chicken stuff and he liked it. Drinks quite expensive but all you can surely get is the fresh ambiance.. I had such a peaceful time for there was no disturbance and thats what we want after a hectic day at the office.

Higher prices, lower quality

Had dinner there last night with some friends and the prices seem to have gone up. The food here used to be pretty good, but to our disappointment, the Tiramisu they served had gone bad. Spoilt what was otherwise a decent meal. The service seems to be indifferent too. The music is too loud and does not suit the ambience. Expect a better experience for the price.

Went on a weekday evening to Mangii, was under the impression that they were having Strawberry fest ongoing, but later realised tht ended in Dec.
Anyways,we decided to sit inside. They dimmed the lights & put a candle on the table,
We decided for Potato Gnocchi in spinach sauce. This definitely gets a thumbs-up.Then the wood flamed Capricciosa [though i dint find the wood flavor in it] : was good nonetheless.Mocktails - She is a Peach [Peach & apple juice concotion],Spice Girl [refreshing due to the khus factor] & Current Affair [Cranberry based].
Dessert - Strawberry cheesecake was worth every calorie ingested ..yummmm...the glazed straweberries added to the taste.Creme Brulee was good too ,could make out the caramelised sugar which enhanced the flavour.
One grouse was the waiters were in a tearin hurry to clear our tables as soon as we served ourselves,as if they didnt want us to sit back & enjoy.COnsidering the place wasnt full, this just felt weird.

Not cool

We were about 12 people spending the Friday evening after work. A bottle of sauvignon red wine (Indian) was ordered from the menu card (along with starters & other hard drinks). When the order was being placed we were not informed that the wine we had asked for was not in stock. Some other waiter came with a bottle & said that the one in his hand was 'almost same' as the wine we had ordered. When asked for a repeat, we were informed that the only bottle that they had was already on the table. The waiter had brought yet another bottle of 'almost same' wine - which was actually of a different make & of a different vintage. I mean, just because we are a bunch of regular folks & not connoiseurs of wine does not mean that we do not understand when we are being taken for a ride.

The rating of 3 is for the food which was very very average given the price tag. We eventually spent more than 21k for the four hours we spent there but with a bitter aftertaste of being conned.

No need for the cafe's management to ask for contact details. We cannot go back and change what happened. Please try to improve the service at this outlet, more good reviews will follow.

I planned to attend the recommended Breakfast Special in Cafe Mangii, Powai and BOY, I was disappointed. We called in advance and were told that breakfast timing was from 9:30- 11:30 however shockingly when we arrived at 10:55, we were told that the specials were over. We requested the waiter to prepare at least some of the breakfast items, but we were flatly refused. I was highly disgruntled since we brought friends along which included a Food Critic.

Horrible experience

I was at Cafe Mangii for dinner on Sunday, 4th Dec, 2011 and the experience was very okay.
we ordered a Caprice salad (biggest mistake) and 4 cheese pizza.

the problems
1- the entire area had a very funny smell (can attribute it to the lake) however sitting outside in the smell for a meal was not pleasant at all
2- the Caprice salad gave me food poisoning (yes!!) i was terribly sick for the whole week aft that.
3- the pizza which we ordered came even before we could finish the salad and by the time we go to it. it was really cold and hard.
4- as tables were running full, there was considerable chaos amongst the staff and we had to wait for really long even for small requests like salt and pepper.

my only suggestion to you guys is that, if its difficult to manage a big crowd on a weekend, please stick to the numbers you can manage.

Please test the food before its served. no one likes to fall sick after visiting a premium restaurant and run up hospital bills.

You guys have surely lost a customer.

Mangii Rude

Visited with my colleagues after work, place was packed. After 30 minutes we get the table, least we expect after waiting is decent staff. On the contrary staff was uptight and rude. Food is decent but it doesn't stand out and being overpriced which makes it not worth it... similar food is offered by many in the locality therefore such prices for an ordinary meal is not worth the effort to wait but service and staff needs to have a look in majorly. Its nothing like Cafe Mangii in Bandra. Sorry Guys !!

good food, good ambience

Went there yesterday for an impromptu thursday night dinner. It was quite a busy evening though with only a couple of tables empty. Liked the ambience, lighting and the bar at the end. The outside seating also looked promising, but was not functional atleast when we were there. We ordered some crostinis with a fig spread.. just delicious. Our drinks were also good. For mains we resorted to salads and believe me both salads were yummy, one seafood(crab and shrimp) and the other a veg melon salad. The portions were decently sized. I could not finish my salad though that was the only thing I had for the main course. Would definitely recommend. Have visited the Khar one many times but I think the Powai one wins hands down in ambience. The quality of service was good though kind of slow. The only disappointment was the dessert menu. Wish they had more options.

Average italian food

Before i write a review of my experience for this i would like to mention that I have been dating an Italian mother of 4 for the past several years besides being an avid cook which means that i should have adequate credentials for writing a review for an Italian restaurant.

Since i was craving a good Italian pasta I decided to try cafe Mangii out which is around the corner from where i am temporarily staying in Powai. The ambience and atmosphere was nice and they were happy to accommodate me on a busy sunday night.

Coming to the food, the complimentary bread was nice and I ordered the simplest of pasta dishes (pasta Aglio e Olio with prawns) hoping it would be the hardest to stuff up. What came out was average and definitely not worth the price.

As with all Italian pastas, the pasta is the hero. It is meant to home made, fresh and perfectly Al dente which you would hope a fine restaurant like this would get right. However it tasted like store bought pasta that was overcooked and slightly mushy with barely any body.

The prawns were nice although i would have preferred whole large prawns char grilled with the tail on. The pasta had a nice dash of olive oil which was nice but not of the variety that would lift the entire dish but then again such olive oil is hard to source in Mumbai. A core component of such a simple dish is coarsely cut flat leaf parsley (not the curly tasteless crap). however the dish had one too many herbs. The waiter even said there would be oregano in the dish which was disappointing. no matter how much us Indians like oregano on our pizzas it shouldn't be a part of this pasta.

Finally the entire dish tasted quite cheesy and with the mushy pasta it almost tasted like you were eating cheese. I asked for some Parmesan on the side and was glad it wasnt the pre-grated variety. but next time please dont be so heavy handed or just serve it by the side.

Finally the pasta was a little bit on the spicier side which I dont think would be a problem with normal Indian guests.

Alll up an average meal but ive been spoilt in the past. I will return to try the pizzas though as you really have to try hard to stuff up a wood fired pizza.

we entered, good ambience. we sat, lovely menu. we ordered coke and green tea... extremely over-priced, but at least dint taste bad (obviously, coz was manufactured else where)
pizza was average... we then ordered some cheesecake (worst ever). the waiter by mistake got some caramel drink which actually tasted better.. but soon replaced with cocokabana ordered by us which was, that tasted just about OK. then just to
better the spoilt taste buds ordered a pasta- again dreadfully bad!

total bill 2000+, awful food and average service. go there just to have some water

Great food,Great place

Its a five point review and ten star rating:
1) The location and the ambience is perfect, only if they had the first floor, would have got a better view of the lake.
2) Great service, the waiters know the menu well and are good at suggestions, and don't keep you waiting for long.
3) The soft italian music really sets a good mood.
4) Their wood-fired pizzas are NOT just a hype..they do have a distinctively different taste and is easy on the tummy as its not too cheesy. Perfect.
5) The food and mocktails are top notch!!
Kudos..Keep it up!!

Almost a great experience

Yesterday, I traveled half way across the globe to reach Cafe Mangii. Okay, I'm kidding but when you come all the way from Versova to Powai it just seems like that. The place is located bang across the Powai Lake with prominent signboards and a beautiful facade that you cannot miss.

As soon as wee entered the place it was love at first sight. The place was kinda empty at 2.30 pm, so we got to pick our table and we chose to be seated by the window, so that we could catch a view of the lake.

Pretty much everything in the menu look tempting. Maybe it was the menu, or maybe it was just us - very hungry. To begin with we ordered some garlic bread, caprese and a salad, whose name escapes my memory. They were also quick to serve us some house bread. Off to a great start.

Now comes shocker number one.

By the time we were ready to order our main course, it was 3.15 pm. We called upon the server to take the order. He came over and said that the kitchen's closed. It closes at 3, we were told. But, we argued, why did no one tell us about it? We came to Cafe Mangii to have lunch and right after we've had our appetizers you tell us that the kitchen is closed. Not done. Anyhow, the waiter suggested that we try the pizzas which they serve all day long.

So we went for a couple - Pizza Fresca and a Pizza Mediterranea. Both were very good. Add a little love (read olive oil) on the top and you make them excellent.

We wrapped up and asked for the check.

Now comes shocker number two.

A service charge auto added to the bill. Hello, what's up which these fancy shmancy places these days? Let it be a patron's prerogative how much to tip!

The place is expensive, but the well done interiors, the music, the view of the lake, the service and the food make it worth it.

I would recommend the place for the food and experience.

Dear Anand,

The staff have been informed with regards to letting the guests know when the kitchen shuts for lunch. As you may know we are now an all day dining restaurant the pizzas are available throughout and there is a deli menu on until 7pm.

With regards to service charge, this is something that has always been part of our billing structure. I am glad you like the restaurant and continue to visit us.

Good experience!!

my friends & me were passing by Powai on a late Sunday afternoon trying to decide the right place to have a good meal for lunch when suddenly one of us read “woodfired pizzas”… next thing we did was check if we would get a table & we were pleasantly surprised to get one right away.. so we enter the place & instantly felt as though we’d made the right choice.. the place looked good, clean, spacious & had a great view.. we ordered some starters, pastas, risoto & pizzas.. they even had some interesting mocktails & desserts which we ordered later.. everything went well.. service was quick & efficient.. ambience was nice too.. pastas, risotto & desserts were really good! the only thing which let us down were the pizzas! they just didn’t taste as good as we expected them to.. or maybe we expected too much.. but the overall experience was good & I would surely recommend people to visit this place..

Thank you for your comments sir. I am a little surprised you did not enjoy the Pizzas considering they are our best sellers. Could you please write to me at info@cafemangii.com and tell me what went wrong with the pizza. I would like to convey it to my Chef.

I hope to see you soon at Cafe Mangii.

Great Taste and honesty on a platter

When its time to celebrate a special occasion , trust me Cafe Mangii wont let you down.

Lovely Ambience and great food.

Went there on a sunday to celebrate my moms birthday. Have been there earlier too and also the bandra branch.

This beautiful place is located bang opposite the lake so lunch would be a great idea to be enjoy the view of the lake.
We started with a few mocktails , worth mentioning especialy is 'She is peach- a peachy moctail...really well made. so was the peach and mint cooler...refreshing.

For starters we had the jalapeno and sundried tomato fondue served with croutons coated with pesto sauce....Absolutely amazing... melt in your mouth cheese with pieces of jalapeno andsundried tomatoes... the garlic and cheese crostini was just perfect- right amount of garlic, perfectly melted cheese and baked to perfection.

For main course we had 2 pizza and 1 pasta.

I am absolutely repulsed by mushroom but relished the penne in mushroom sauce pasta.... perfectly spiced and great tasting... not accompanied by any bread a tad bit dissapointed. coz i generally feel that the concept of pre-plated and individually sized portion should be served with a portion of bread/garlic bread.

Pizza- 1 mediterrenia and vegetale...both done well and tasted good too... just that i am not accustomed to the taste of capers...they impart a slightly funny flavor that i wasn't used to... but still they both tasted good..generous amount of toppings..

Was so full by then that dint really have any desserts. but definately going back for the belgian chocolate mousse since there hav bee a lot of receommendations for the same.

I have been here before so the bill was not a shocker. It is expensive but then you don't go here everyday... On a special day when u wanna make someone feel special you don't mind the slight setback on your pocket for a great evening.

Also they have a breakfast menu...very interesting and wanna try it sometime soon.

Lastly a special mention for Manish , Lalit and the manager Mr.Peter for the safe keep of my wallet containing all my debit and credit cards which was forgotten there post dinner. When I called to inform them that I had forgotten the wallet there Manish assured me that it would be safe and I need not run back the same day to fetch it.The next morning my mom went to collect it on my behalf and had to give a detailed description of all contents and only then was it handed over to her by Mr.Peter. Hoping to see you soon Mr.Peter and all glad to meet honest people like you. You definitely are an asset to Cafe Mangii.

Great Expensive Gourmet Food

I've been wanting to go to this place for a few months now, but since I lacked the foresight to book a table in advance, I couldn't manage it till last night. The place looks like it could have had a lovely ambience. There are a few things that destroy the environment and kind of kill the mood:
1. A big screen TV with cricket playing on it (Probably unavoidable in India)
2. Loud blaring music
3. A constant clattering of cutlery (Got very annoying!)

So, instead of a calm, peaceful Italian bistro experience, you'll find yourself thrown into a loud Italian Sports lounge hybrid thingee. However, all of that can be forgiven, simply because of their delicious food!

For starters, we tried the Pepperoni and Black Olives Pizza, which isn't really a starter, but we wanted to taste the Pizza, the pasta and a steak! A magical sauce, on a paper thin crust, with coin sized pepperoni slices! I don't think I've ever tasted a pizza sauce as spectacular!

The Minute Steak (beef) comes with a delicious barbeque sauce, and an assortment of grilled veggies and potato wedges. The Fettucini Siciliano pasta was pretty good as well. Although most Pastas come with at least 1-2 slices of garlic bread, you'll have to shell out more money to get it here. I'll hold the rest of the praise for one of the best tasting desserts that I've ever had, the Sinful Belgian Chocolate Mousse. Rich creamy, dark chocolate that just melts in your mouth. The kind of chocolate that isn't spoiled by a lot of sugar... A perfect ending to an almost perfect meal....

Now, before going there, I had read reviews on burrp, and there was this one review by rolandb that particularly helped! He had mentioned that he was overcharged (by 30%) on 2 occasions. I don't usually check by bill (which I really should, and will from now on) but due to rolandb I did check it last night and I had been charged for a Mimosa and a glass of wine that had never been ordered, worth almost Rs. 900! But the charges were reversed without much of a fuss, and based on the gestures being made by the waiter at the billing counter, I had probably been charged for the drinks ordered by the adjacent table.

Another unpleasant surprise was that I was not offered a discount that is usually given to American Express card holders. One waiter told me that it doesn't apply on Saturdays and Sundays, while another said that it was a black-out day due to Raksha Bandhan, . Rakhi, a black-out day! Really? I guess restaurants are free to decide such things, but still, disappointing...

The final blow came with the service charge... I personally have a big issue with places that levy a service charge. I shouldn't be forced to pay a tip, that too of 10-15%! I decide how much tip to pay depending on the level of service that I have received. I have a simple rule... Service Charge = No Tip !

So, all that being said, the most important thing in a restaurant is food, and the food here is spectacular, so I'll probably go there again.. And in case anyone is interested, they also have a delicious looking breakfast menu (0930 -1130hrs).

Giv it a try for urself..

little expensive.. so a little low on the value for money aspect.. thoh like the subtle flavours.. if ur tongue is too indianised, u may not really be very happy abt the tastes. as for me- i liked the different flavours.. quite light on the stomach.. al good..
Ambience inside is strictly ok- an effort has been made to make it look starkly beautiful, but the efforthas gone the other way- its now a little dull n boring.. the outside of the cafe thoh takes my breath away- it actually looks like a quaint ole roadside cafe.. wish cud sit there on a pleasant winter morn wit a coffee n a book.. and of course, wud prefer the noise of the JVLR road (unfortunately right nect to the cafe) to b absent!
All in al, do try once..
a little different menu.. wud like heartier portions and slightly better pricing..
right now tat is a bit more french than italian! ;) :D

Dil Mange More

This has been my third visit to this place... but surely i always prefer the window side seating during the afternoons.
But this time we were a group of eight and tried a lot many more dishes this time including the pizza with basil and chicken and i must say they have improved now. Only thing missing is good pizza cheese.... otherwise the ingredients are pretty well balanced. The beef carpaccio was ok. Mangi chicken, chicken blanco.... and the herbed chicken were very enjoyable. Only the calamari fritters has too much coating and too less calamari. The mocktails look very classy.... haven't tasted them yet but whatever served in whicherve table theye always catches eveyrone's eye. The steak needs a bit more looking at....though we ordered medium it was pretty much on the well done side. On the service side they have improved many folds compared to what we faced during our first visit. The waiters were well versed with menu and helped us in picking the right dishes. Considering this is the only restaurant in this side of the suburbs serving steak and ribs and carpaccio.. they should really give special focus to these dishes... though i can see the demand is very less. That's one of the things that will encourage us to keep visiting this place again and again.
Also last but not the least... we miss the high chairs... they were so much fun! please get some of them back...

It costs to taste the elite

The word Mangii comes from the Italian verb ‘mangiare’ which means to eat. Café Mangii boasts of its pastas and traditional Napolitana thin-crust pizza prepared in wood fired brick oven using mozzarella.

So here I come to explore what mangii has to offer! As I reach this place, there are tables outside the café with umbrella roofs at each table. It’s pleasant in the evenings to sit back at your table outside with the steady breeze blowing from the Powai lake soothing your dining experience.
The ambience inside the café is warm and comfortable. There’s a beautiful bar counter and adjacent to it is the brick oven where you can see the pizzas being cooked in traditional method. What caught my attention was the humongous chandelier which looked like 5-6 huge leaf-shaped lights facing each other in a circle. I liked the color combination of dark chocolate brown furniture and sofa seating with white upholstery placed near huge windows, so people inside can also enjoy the lake view.
Well, here comes my waiter handing over the menu to me. The whimsical names in the menu may make it difficult for you to pick your food however the waiters will definitely help you out in making your choice. Just a caution, firstly as far as the vegetarian food is concerned; the food may put you off. Secondly the food here may not completely satiate the Indian palate and thirdly the service charges are 10 %( no corporate discounts-they say they are still working on it). Let me mention the service is pretty quick given the intricacy required in the making of these dishes!

I kick off with juices and I must mention they are way expensive! Current affair Rs.390 tastes like mixed fruit jam and extremely sweet. Mam late Rs.175 is nothing much but tastes like bournvita and Caribbean cooler Rs.175 is better than the rest of the two but it has apple which I personally don’t prefer.

I chose the grand Mangii-classic cheese fondue(veg) Rs.475. It’s served in a mud pot made in labanese style which is a mixture of emmenthal, gruyere and cheddar cheese. The fondue is thick and threads of cheese form as you lift your bread crumbs dipped in.
Garlic crostini (veg) Rs.165 (with cheese Rs.205) are French rolls rubbed with garlic and fresh herbs with cheese. I recommend this dish as a warm up to your appetite.
Prawns butter garlic (non-veg) Rs. 355 consists of around 8-10 king prawns in butter garlic sauce. The sauce used is absolutely delicious but the prawns were not cooked enough. Otherwise this dish could be superb.
Herbed chicken (non-veg) Rs.305 consists around 5-6 grilled chicken slices stuck in a stick which is rubbed with Italian herbs and served with aioli(sauce). Even this dish is good enough for a try.

Main course:
Lasagne bolognaise (non-veg) Rs.465 is baked lasagna with minced chicken(also available in beef). This dish was not as impressive to my palate as it was to my eye. I give it an average.
Mangii chicken(non-veg) Rs.495 is a chef’s special item. It’s stuffed chicken breast with ricotta (type of cheese), spinach and minced olives. The chicken is grilled and served with garlic mash in roasted primento quili and mushroom pepper sauce. It’s pretty well made with good quantity and stomach filling but it may not impress the Indian palate.
Risotto pomodore (veg) Rs. 395 is risotto (type of rice) with plum tomatoes, asparagus, broccoli and American corn. The risotto could have been better had it not been made too tangy.
Cottage cheese steak (veg) Rs.415 consists of thick slices of char grilled cottage cheese steak (Paneer) served on a bed of spaghetti , grilled zucchini and dressed with roasted pimento quili. This dish is good enough but my only grouse is that the spaghetti was a bit too oily.

Well, I already see my pocket getting almost empty, so choose only one dessert to complete my expensive meal named Tiramisu Rs.275 made with espresso soaked genoise (sponge cake) layered with Italian mascarpone cream and topped with 2 chocolate sticks which is served in a tiny little glass. I was upset with the quantity given the price I paid.

My rating for Mangii is:
Ambience 8/10
Value for money 6/10
Service 7/10
Taste 7/10

I love the one in Bandra, and the powai one is equally gud, esp with the al fresco dining option facing the lake. A beautiful setting!
We ordered the butter garlic prawns, a mediterranean pizza, a gorgoeous watermelon mocktail and dirty martini. Damage for 2 - Rs.1500, sans dessert.

Worst Lasagna ever!

Okay, so the place has an enviable location and an awesome decor, but the food is pathetic.

I've visited this place twice and have ordered Lasagne at both the instances. They prepare the worst Lasagne in town (simply don't know how to make it). It was unbreakable by knife / fork / spoon. The layers were all separate. On top of that when asked to serve on a plate, the waiter served me just one layer at a time (he told me this is how it is done). So I ended up eating cheese for one layer, and vegetables for another.

I tried complaining to the "Manager" regarding the quality and he started defining what a Lasagne is. He also said this is how it is supposed to be and he hasn't heard a complaint ever so I'm simply wrong.

If you don't know how to cook, at least teach your staff to accept criticism.

Big Dissapointment ... Pathetic !!

I am a regular at Cafe Mangii, Khar and when it opened up in Powai, it was the best thing thta could happen. Went there last Monday and it was just pathetic ... the decor was nice, so the 2nd star. Food was so bad that i could not beleive its the same 'brand' whom I have described as the best italian in Mumbai.

The pasta was just edible but the pizza was so pathetic that we left it halfway. The waiter told us the main chef was on leave so the assistant was cooking. Do we care ???

Just avoid the place and go to the Khar one if possible. We are definitely not going there again. Seems the accolade given to the Khar rest has gone into their head.

Worth a second shot

Their lighting can be easily spotted from the other end of the street, and our curiosity led us right outside Cafe Mangii at Lake Boulevard Road Powai. I'm trying to make the most of the 'pleasant' weather in Mumbai these days an we therefore decided to get a table for two outdoors, facing the lake. Deep regret awaited us 5 minutes later when we were being chomped on by mosquitoes and fed up of the traffic noise behind us. Being a Sunday evening, it was too late to get a table indoors.

A mosquito coil and intense conversation later, things really started looking up as my Baked Cottage Cheese in delicious Pesto sauce arrived. It was followed by a great Green Calzone with an excellent crust, thanks to the wood fired oven I'm guessing. I have to admit the waiters seemed genuinely concerned about our comfort after watching us squirm due to the mosquitoes. We gobbled up our food and left immediately.

The Menu seemed extremely inviting and there are a zillion things I have to go try there. Also, 30th Jan being a dry day I didn't get to sample their wine. I'm looking forward to my second visit, this time making sure of reserving a table inside and saving a huge appetite.

Not a kid friendly place

Went there recently with my wife and 2 year old daughter. The manager didnt seem very happy that we had a toddler. Since all the sofa's were occupied, he asked us to sit on the table kept on the footpath. On enquiry as to how much time it would take for a sofa to be available - he said it will take very long, when i insisted on a time, he said 30 mins. We sat on the table outside, but it was too noisy due to the traffic on the powai road. We decided to wait till the sofa's were available. I went into ask the manager to let us know when the sofa would be available. Again, he insisted that it will take very very long. (it was eight pm on a Wednesday) when i insisted for a time - he said 45 minutes. i asked him to take my number and give me a call on my cell once the sofa was available and went shopping to the nearby mall at Powai.

The call never came !!

As the name suggests, it’s not a cafe set-up at all. It’s a full fledged fine dine restaurant. The interiors were good; but the food is strictly ok and much expensive. The food items are named differently but basically serve very ordinary stuff...for eg. I ordered a crostini with toppings and herbs....what was served was a garlic bread equivalent with herbs placed only namesake. The mocktail was a sugar syrup and not well stirred.
Guys, please check the bill before you pay, as they added a 500 Rs. item which we had not ordered at all.
Overall a very expensive place with just about ordinary food.

Over all good

After going through Over multiple reviews regarding this place and my several visits to mangii ferra juhu and the experience I had their in my couple of visits I decided to visit this place and finally yesterday went with my family.
I like this place, but the food is really very average . All the dishes that we tried were very average in taste, and over rated. The Quality, quantity, is suppose to do justice with the price the customer is paying for.

Not done properly many elements are not matching with the theme done it confusingly ( this is for interior of restaurant)
From outside it is done nicely with beautiful garden and pots with trees and simple but lovely lighting .

Capriciosa Pizza- ( U S P OF THE BRAND) Not like mangii ferra - Crust is not as fine as mangii ferra , some thing missing
Pene ala romana- Taste is not as good as mangii ferra was very light ( Stringy in porcini)
Prawn butter garlic- Prawns are tiny ( mentioned king prawn) if size is smaller could have compensiated with more prawn , found only 6

I was surprised that the how chef can continue to take the food preparation issue so lightly not supervising it That is sheer negligence and how Pizza Could go so wrong?

We had mocktails they are the perfect.

unmatchable as good as mangii ferra has.
Good staff and their grooming and polished language is excellent .
Right way of receiving, allocating tables, order taking, suggesting, attentive , quick and efficient.

But I hope to give this restaurant one more chance, and look forward to they are improved.

Hat- trick - Winning experience

This was our third visit to this joint, really liked the place , people , and hospitality.

All the time it was the service was impressive , suggestive, efficient, and quick too.

Quick to come to the table, anticipate every need, bread baskets replenished , water refilled , pepper mill for freshly crushed pepper, preparation been asked , it was quite spot on. Sometimes though, a little over done, but I will not blame them for being best performer.

Anyway, coming to the food.

Portions are tiny and not having consistent taste .
Butter garlic prawn - Taste was variable every time
Bruschetta of brie- Dose of balsamic vinegar was different

Main Course:
1) Pene ala romana : We actually requested a white sauce with chicken - Suggested by steward - exactly similar we orderd but role of mushroom gave me dramatic unmatchable taste

2) Rawas in home made harissa : Complete with a meditareanean flavour adequately suiting my palate healthy option of cous cous - my husband thoroughly enjoyed it.

3) Spaghetti Bolognaise: The seldom offered beef (yum) bolognaise sauce was cooked just right and was the highlight of my meal.

The Tirumisu is PERFECTION! Have had them many places and this is the real thing! I kid you not, go for it!

In all, the food was outstanding all the three times but One thing that it was not consistent .
Specially starters are very expensive due to portion size .

As for me, I AM def going back

Pathetic service negating good food

Went to Café Mangii with some friend for a quiet dinner. Food served was rather good but service provided was equally pathetic, hence ruining the experience

Some highlights

- Waiter missed some of the items we ordered in the first round, later claiming we never ordered them
- you shall not be served unless you ask for it, hence you shall not tip the waiter unless he asks for it :-)
- we received the bill for only half the dishes we ate. I let the waiter know in a rather sarcastic tone. He didn’t say anything, took my credit card and went away only to come back with my credit card swiped for the actual amount.. no explanation nothing …not even an apology or gratitude for letting them know that they are losing money

All in all chefs here can teach a lot on how to cook Italian while waiters can learn a lot on how to be courteous

Not sure if they should expect another visit from us :-)

Windows to the lake

Went there on a weekday afternoon. Liked the decor, specially the floor spacing done with different levels of seating. Nice romantic sofas by the window, high chairs for friendly conversational dinner in the middle of the floor and laid back big sofas for the family dos on the other side. The central chandelier is nice and quirky.. big flower petals. Outside seating doesn't work because of the heavy traffic movement on the road (JVLR). maybe some kind of screening/ barricading would. The waiters seemed to know the menu listing and manage to pronounce it well.. maybe they have improved with training. Food was good...both the salad and the risotto we ordered. even the fruit mocktails were done well. Didn't try the pizza though. But valet parking is non existent... in powai at least we couldn't find anyone to do valet parking. But will surely visit at night someday to check the wine list... they have a long one but all by the bottle.

Perfect Meal Experience @ cafe mangii

This is my 2 nd time here, after a very long time I enjoyed two consecutive times at same place and the experience was similar and unmatchable.
Went there once in thursday and third day ( sunday) night with my mother and brother.
We had 2 drinks (all mageritas, yummy , perfectly made with right punch and both times it was same they suggested me cosmo but i love my margarita)
We had the ceasar salad funny part that meat was missing and after been asked it was rectified) The way the waiter handelled was simply perfect and polished .
I lived in Italy for 1 year and the carpaccio found and the closest to the one there. We had the herbed chicken on wooden skewers which was superb , juicy It was grilled to perfection.
I was not happy with cajun chicken ( not the preparation but with the accompaniment guacomole and sour cream taste bad with it)
For the main meal we had the Pene ala romana, Rawas in home made harissa -Both Excellent, will recommend it to everyone.
On whole it was awesome food the service was good even though they were friendly and polite.
Def. will be back to eat some more...

top notch!

Mangii never failed to impress me. The service, ambiance, food, everything is top notch! I have visited cafe mangii khar many times and recently I visited Powai Outlet Last thursday

Service: words cannot do justice to describe very friendly, quick and efficient; attentive and Pace in service and important I saw known faces form Khar

Ambiance: they've taken this time theme too seriously compare to their ambience at Khar . playing music soothing to that mood .
The place is stunning the signage is the crown of the ambeinece , outside garden and lightings are jewels and the transpernet glass having view of lake and road is outstanding - Siriously very few restaurant has got that look
Outside open-air section not suggested due to season but looks is looks absolutely romantic.
The indoor section is chic and elegant with comfortable sofa seating except the middle part of Bar section - Hi tables and chairs very uncomfortable

Food: you must go there and savour the flavours. Good food

The only complaint - appetizers come in very small portions, and well the prices do pinch! But thats hardly a minus! Visit this place with your signification other

Not just anouther Italian restaurant

When I heard of Cafe Mangii opening in powai I had to visit the place after hearing so much about it. first thing you notice is the tables that are outside. But sitting outside might be a problem as a major highway (JVLR) runs beside the place making sitting outside a noisy and dusty affair. Its better in the night as the traffic is thin. Decor was good but i really dont care for it as I as always look at the food. And the food does not let you down. I had a Chk. Mangii with musroom sauce and the sauce was to die for. My frinds had the Cajun pizza which was a good thin crusted pizza.
Ok now for the problem. No Booze,,,.. atleast till Nov 1st. Since there was no booze there was no Tiramisu. Another problem was service was a bit slow. It took them 20 min even to give the menu. So is it worth a second visit I would say yes only if they improve service

Strictly OK - Pizza hype a mystery

It lies on my route to office and last week, I could see the servers being trained. They opened on Dusshera and we decided to try it out for dinner last night.
Hard to miss this place at night – they still have their opening day / Dusshera lights up - all over the trees in front.

Kudos to their interior designer - the space is really open and the tables not too close to each other. Choose between couch seating against the walls and the high chair seating in the center. Great chandelier - check, cream-n-dark wood décor – check, visible wood fired oven - check. My only grouse - the flat screen TV. With interiors that say ‘almost-fine dine restaurant’, why a TV? It seems so out of place! Maybe it’s just me, but I think food should be king here - and TVs belong to family restaurants.

The service is nervous, hesitant, and sporadic. Expect both over-friendly servers and red-faced fumbling ones. Asked for the drinks menu - not printed yet as new place. Ok, fair enough. So what was available? Off he went to ask the bartender. Two to-and-fros later, the server produces a bar menu. Huh?
Some servers can't pronounce the dishes and are immediately recalled by other servers. Another switched fork and knife placement and rushed back to correct them. All of them dress alike, but only some of them take orders. Teething troubles methinks. Hope they smooth it out.

I went for canned fruit juice as the cocktails seemed a little overpriced for a 'cafe'. They loaded my small glass of juice with 5 cubes of ice. The complimentary breads come with a herbed butter dip and a variety of bite-sized breads – superb and polished off instantly. We ordered two anti pasti - a Camembert bruschetta and a zucchini Carpaccio. Both good but drenched with olive oil and balsamic reduction respectively. Still, not bad at all - wasn't disappointing but nothing spectacular either.
They recommended the pizza – servers, menus and signboards. They have a separate pizza menu and I was surprised at the number of vegetarian pizzas I could choose from. We ordered a Mediterranean pizza and decided to watch our pizza being made from our seats as the oven is very visible. The person making the pizzas seemed too slow and nervous to be an experienced. The pizza confirmed it - the tomato sauce was too tangy and the pizza base unevenly cooked - the middle was limp and the outer inch-ring, nice and crisp. The toppings consisted more of olives and cheese than the other toppings listed. All in all - too tangy and boring. Huge disappointment. Spied similar reaction at the next table too. Put it in a box and it could pass as your neighborhood pizzas - only more expensive.

They really need to buckle up - both on the service and the food. The pizza that they advertise lacks individuality and pizzazz. Would I go back? Only after I see at least 3-4 good reviews here and even then, skeptically.
