Dheeraj Arcade Shop No 13 A/15 A, Dr Ambedkar Road, Pali Naka, Bandra (W), Mumbai

Awful

terrible service

I only wanted two pastries. You wouldn't think that was too much to ask for.

First of all when we ordered one particular kind of pastry the manager wrote down our order as two without asking us. "No, we wanted one," we said. "Oh why don't you have another," she replied. The answer to that question is because we only wanted one. Asking if you want another is fine, but actually writing another down on your order sheet before you are asked is disgusting. This kind of hard sell I expect in some grubby store, not my bakery, and I won't accept it from either. But this is just the start of it.

We were told that the items we wanted weren't fresh so when new ones were ready at three o clock they would be sent to our house. Great, we thought, some decent service. Three o clock came and went. So did four, five and six. Since it was only two pastries and our lives don't revolve around them we'd forgotten until at seven o clock we suddenly remembered. So we called up the shop. There was a half hearted apology from the same woman who took our order, (I assume she is the manager) and no real reason given. We told her that we were leaving in half and hour, so they had better come before that. We live five minutes away. She assured us that they would be there immediately. Thirty five minutes later and nothing arrived. We left. I called her up, angry by now. The first thing she claimed was that it was less than half an hour. So essentially she was calling me a liar. This isn't going to endear her to me. A business should not call a customer a liar unless they are damn sure of it. After this she gave the line everyone uses - "he's on his way". As if this is going to make any difference; we; already left. I had told her that I would be leaving in half an hour and she had assured me that the delivery would be there before we left. So she was the liar.

When I pointed this out to her she decided to change approach and beg forgiveness and asked me what I wanted to get to make up for this - she literally offered me "anything". But the only thing I wanted was my pastries delivered on time, and this is the only thing she couldn't provide.

I don't want to be bribed; I want basic service performed correctly. A mistake in the order and some forgetfulness I can readily forgive, but being subsequently lied to and then accused of being a liar myself before being offered bribes for forgiveness I cannot. And all this over two average pastries which don't even taste that good in the first place.

Excellent

Best cakes in town!

I always order from Jaya. I don't think there's anyone else in town who gives such high quality cakes at such a decent price. I don't know how she does it. I'd have to go to a five star hotel to even try to get anything as good as these, and I'd still fail, and what's more I'd pay through the nose to do it. I don't know why she is listed here as expensive!

The Fruit Gateaux is consistently amazing, and the Devil's Chocolate cake is to die for. You can taste the real cocoa, thick and dark and neither too sweet or too bitter, but just sitting there in between, melting on my tongue! And if you love marzipan you should pick up the phone and start calling right now. As for the brownies.... well just try them and see.

All this, and the service is first rate; friendly, polite and extremely knowledgeable. This girl knows her cakes!
